Church Staff
Lutherans believe that Christian people carry out the church’s ministry in their daily lives. Pastors equip and encourage the people for that daily ministry by preaching, administering the sacraments, teaching, counseling, visiting the sick and distressed, and advising the church in theological and practical matters.
The Pastor of Cross Lutheran Church is Kevin Kaiser. Pr. Kevin was born in Bellevue, OH, and raised in Cottage Grove, MN. As a youth, he was very active in the school band and church activities. To this day, he serves the church and has a basement full of percussion instruments. He is a graduate of Concordia College in Moorhead, MN, and Luther Seminary in St. Paul, MN. He was ordained in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) in 2008 and was certified to serve in the North American Lutheran Church (NALC) in 2025.
Pr. Kevin’s first ministries were in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. He then moved to Calvary Lutheran Church in Minong, WI, where he served from 2019 to 2025. Calvary called Pr. Kevin as the church emerged from a significant conflict. Pr. Kevin provided solid preaching and leadership as Calvary rebuilt trust in the community and developed a reputation for hospitality and generosity.
Here at Cross, Pr. Kevin continues to focus on solid biblical preaching and supporting Cross’s church, school, and daycare ministries as we bring people to Christ, teach them to be disciples, and send them into the world with Christ’s Gospel. In his spare time, Pr. Kevin plays percussion, cooks, and watches action movies. He is also pursuing his doctorate. Pr. Kevin has very little hunting and fishing experience, but lots of experience cooking for hunters and fishermen, even helping a few young hunters learn to truly enjoy the venison they will harvest. Pr. Kevin is married to Steffany, whom he met while serving her childhood church in Republic, MI. They married in 2014, and their son William was born in 2015. Steffany holds degrees from Suomi College in Hancock, MI, and the University of Wisconsin, Stevens Point. She is a Caregiver at Cross Lutheran Early Childhood Center. She is also the only one in the family who is devoted to a professional athletic team. (Go Red Wings!) William is a student at Cross Lutheran School. He enjoys basketball, robotics, video games, riding bikes, and solving Rubik's Cubes. Their household also includes Priscilla Martti (Steffany’s mom) and Alex (the family dog). You will see the Kaisers out and about, cheering on the bands, choirs, and athletes at our local schools, and visiting thrift stores, farmers' markets, and restaurants.
Heather Garrett has a background in Montessori Education. She has taught in Carlsbad, CA, and Midland, MI. She has three children and is a member of Harvest Church in Bad Axe.
Beth Elston earned a B.A. and a Lutheran Teaching Diploma from Concordia College, Ann Arbor, Michigan with a major in music. She also earned an Elementary Education Endorsement through graduate work at Saginaw Valley State University.
Beth is a published composer, having several handbell arrangements in the catalog of Lorenz Publishing Company and a choral piece published by the Choristers Guild.
