As our mission statement says, our purpose is to bring people to Christ, teach Christians to be disciples and to send disciples to reach the world. Cross Lutheran Church has been striving to do just that since our congregation started in August of 1891. The message we profess is Christ's life, death and resurrection; no complicated formulas for earthly riches, no feel-good messages excusing us from the fact we are all sinners, and no promotion of a check-writing mentality to solve the world's problems.
As Martin Luther discovered, salvation is not thru good works but by our faith in Jesus Christ as our Savior. By faith we are justified. We work to do God's will; to fulfill His purpose for our life here on earth.
We recognize that everyone has special gifts given by God. Part of our purpose is to help each other discover those gifts, use them for the purpose God created us for and to expand out gifts. Just as the parable of the talents teaches us to make use of what we are given, it also shows us that God's blessing rest upon those who use His gifts for His purposes and upon those whose lives are touched through their ministry.
OUR MISSION IS TO:
BRING PEOPLE TO CHRIST
TEACH CHRISTIANS TO BE DISCIPLES
SEND DISCIPLES TO REACH THE WORLD
The Bells of Cross became part of our church in 1905. The largest of the three bells is inscribed with the German words "Ich rufe die Lebendigen zur Buste und de Toten zur Ruhe" - I call the living to repentance and the dead to rest. Today the Bells of Cross continue to call us to worship our risen Lord and Savior; Jesus Christ.
